چکیده
THE INTRAVENOUS INJECTION of contrast medi um for the visualization of vascular structures was introduced 43 years ago by Robb and Steinberg. This technique never gained widespread popularity because of the technical problems in obtaining consistent im ages of good quality. Also, the amount of contrast medium that had to be injected to achieve adequate visualization of large arteries was substantial and tim ing of the circulation was difficult. The advent of computer technology has permitted a reassessment of the role of intravenous angiography in the evaluation of cerebrovascular disease. Important contributions to the development of this technique have been made by groups at the University of Wis consin (Madison, Wisconsin), University of Arizona (Phoenix, Arizona) and Kiel Kinderklinik (West Ger many). With intravenous (IV) digital subtraction an giography (DSA), the extracranial and intracranial vessels can now be visualized clearly on either an inpatient or an outpatient basis. This paper reviews the experience of the Sections of Cerebrovascular Dis eases and the Department of Neuroradiology with DSA during the initial two years of its application at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Quantitative Digital Subtraction Angiography in Pediatric Moyamoya Disease
Moyamoya disease is a unique cerebrovascular disorder characterized by idiopathic progressive stenosis at the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and fine vascular network. The aim of this review is to present the clinical application of quantitative digital subtraction angiography (QDSA) in pediatric moyamoya disease. Using conventional angiographic data and postprocessing so...

We review the eight prospective and seven retrospective studies from which it is possible to derive the complication rate of conventional cerebral angiography for patients with mild ischemic cerebrovascular disease who are potential candidates for carotid endarterectomy. Three studies of intravenous and one of intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography are also examined. An overview of the ...
متن کاملA comparison of normal intraarterial digital subtraction angiography with standard angiography in patients with symptomatic cerebrovascular ischemia.
The association between carotid artery disease, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and stroke has been recognized for many years. There still appears to be some controversy over the accuracy of lesion detection with intraarterial digital subtraction angiography (IADSA) as compared with film screen technique. We describe a prospective study that took place over a period of nearly 4 years with 30 c...

Radiation exposure from conventional and digital subtraction angiography of cerebral vessels.
Patients with atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease were studied to determine the radiation exposure associated with conventional and digital subtraction angiography of the cerebral vessels. The median exposure-area product was 3198 R cm2 (range, 616-5665 R cm2) in the conventional angiography group and 1831 R cm2 (range, 366-4198 R cm2) in the IV digital subtraction angiography (DSA) group. ...
